Hello and welcome to my SmugMug. My name is Frank Pharis and I’m strictly an amateur who enjoys photography as a hobby. I’m a native of Nevada currently residing in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but between time in the USAF and a long corporate career, have lived from coast-to-coast and border-to-border in the U.S.
Upon retiring in 2011 after 42+ years in the insurance industry, I’ve been able to devote much more time to this hobby and (hopefully) improving my skills. My wife and I enjoy traveling throughout the U.S., so you’ll find many photos from our travels.
I enjoy history and am a “Route 66” aficionado with a long-term project of photographing what’s left of the old “Mother Road” across its span from Chicago to Santa Monica.
I've been a "Nikonian" since 2013 with my current equipment including a Nikon D7100, Nikon D750 and Nikon Z6. Digital Images prior to 2013 were captured with Olympus E510, E520, or E-30. Many of the older images on this site were taken with one of a variety of Olympus 35mm SLR film cameras I used between the 1970s and 2008 when I made the switch to all digital. I’ve scanned several of those film images from their original negative, print or slide to digital format either using my own scanner or a scanning service (www.scancafe.com). After purchasing a high-end photo scanner with the best of intentions, I quickly found that scanning all the images I’d accumulated to be very time-consuming and labor intensive. Even though I’m “retired,” I still consider my time valuable, and found that using Scan Café is much more cost-effective and I’ve been very satisfied with their process, pricing and end-product.
Thanks for taking the time to visit and I’m always interested in any feedback that will help improve my skills. Feel free to leave a comment on any photo or gallery, or to email me at the address shown below. And remember …… when in doubt, shoot it again!!
