May 23, 2019 -- Praying Hands
This large bronze sculpture stands in front of Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The sculpture stands 60-feet high and weighs in at 30 tons and is said to be the largest bronze sculpture in the world. Oklahoma artist Leonard McMurry used a neighbor’s hands as a mode, but the huge casting was done in Mexico in 1980.
Originally called “The Healing Hands” they stood in front of Oral Roberts’ City of Faith Hospital & Medical Center, which declared bankruptcy in 1989 and the hospital facilities were sold.
The sculpture was then moved to the entrance of nearby Oral Roberts University, where it still stands today.
