This fully restored 1939 N3N-3 Trainer aircraft is taxiing in to his designated “parking space” after landing at the annual Will Rogers Memorial fly-in near Oologah, Oklahoma.
This yellow color is the correct color used in those early trainers. The N3N-3 was “affectionately known” among new pilots as “Yellow Bird” for its distinctive, high-visibility paint scheme, or by others as “Yellow Peril” for the jeopardy in which student aviators often found themselves.
Various models of this N3N aircraft were built at the Naval Aircraft Factory in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania during the 1930s & early 1940s. They were tandem-seat, open cockpit used to train new pilots in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. It was the last biplane used in U.S. Military service and by 1959, all of them had been retired.

on October 8, 2021I love this shot of the old trainer plane. What fun it would be to ride in that. I'm particularly fond of the motion in the propeller that you caught Frank. Wonderful shot!
