Saturday, October 11, 2011 -- Cano's Castle -- Antonito Colorado
Dominic “Cano” Espinosa is the creator of this house made of aluminum scrap, wire, hubcaps, grills, screen doors, beer cans, bicycle reflectors, and window casements and other metal refuse. He says the castle serves as a thanks for having his life spared during the Vietnam war. I guess one man's trash is another man's treasure.
Cano's castle is actually four separate structures. "The king", "the queen", "the palace" and "the rook". The four story "king" house (shown above), covered in gleaming beer cans and hubcaps, is his crowning architectural achievement. Cano says his main influences for the Castle are "Vitamin Mary Jane" and Jesus.
