World's Largest Mineral Hot Spring
Located at the edge of the town of Thermopolis, this Hot Springs State Park was built around the world’s largest single mineral hot spring. Big Spring releases millions of gallons of mineral water every 24 hours at a constant temperature of 135 degrees Fahrenheit. The perpetual fountain forms a seething caldron with some of the water being channeled into pools to be cooled and then piped into bathhouses for public use. From another stream, the water flows over the colorful ‘Rainbow Terrace’ created by long time deposits from the mineral-laden water, which have created a rainbow of colors. From here, the water then spills into the Big Horn River.
