January 5, 2018 -- The Wrangler
This 3-story red brick building has been a retail store since it was built in 1892 and it’s the focal point of a prominent corner of Cheyenne Wyoming’s downtown area. The store became known as “The Wrangler” in 1943 and has done business under that name since then. No, it’s not named for the ‘Wrangler’ brand of clothing (that brand didn’t exist prior to the late 1940s), but named for what was once the main workforce in the area – the ‘wranglers’ (a cowboy, especially one in charge of saddle horses) working at the cattle ranches throughout the area. This was where wranglers came to buy their boots, hats & other clothing items.
